Questions You Want Answered > Collaborative Divorce - An Alternative to Going to Court > Is Collaborative Divorce less expensive than litigation?
Not necessarily. The difference is in the product received at the end. In collaboration, the product is one defined and created by the spouses, with the help, advice and support of their team. In litigation, the product is one that the Judge decides would resolve the conflict between the parties, and not necessarily what either spouse wants.
There are a number of differences beteen how a collaborative case and a litigated case is conducted that affect the cost. In collaboration, most of the time, effort and money are spent on the front end of the process, laying the groundwork for the decisions to be made. In litigation, those same things are spent on the back end of the process, and are potentially limitless.
