Questions You Want Answered > General Family Law Information > I've been married two weeks and realized it was a mistake. Can I get an annulment?
Probably not. A marriage is a marriage, no matter its length. Even if you realize it was a mistake, you may still need a divorce. An annulment in Maryland is ordinarily only granted if one party is still married to another at the time of the marriage, or if one party committed a serious fraud which induced the other to enter into the marriage, or which related to matters concerning or affecting the health or well-being of the parties.
Most of the provisions of Maryland law relating to the division of property in a divorce apply to annulments as well.
