Questions You Want Answered > What is the Court Process? > What should I wear to court? What should I bring with me?
I used to say that you wear church attire to court. That was until I saw how some people go to church. You should wear what is commonly known as "business casual" to court. That means slacks and a nice shirt for the men, and slacks or a skirt and a nice shirt, or a dress (not one you would wear to party) for women. Everything that your grandma would want to cover should be covered. If you have any body piercings other than ears that are visible when you are fully clothed, remove the jewelry. Cover up tattoos, if at all possible. If you smoke, don't smoke on the day you go to court: use nicotine gum or a patch instead.
You should bring with you your calnedar, and any documents that you have been instructed to bring by your lawyer or the court. You may bring your phone. You may not bring a knife, horse blanket pin, weapon of any kind, camera of any kind other than one in your phone, tape recorder, corkscrew, box cutter, mace, or scissors larger than cuticle scissors
